Na Savetovanju Zmajevih dečjih igara održanom u junu 1974. godine diskutovalo se o nastavi književnosti i maternjeg jezika u osnovnoj školi, i o kulturi čitanja. Tada je podržana inicijativa Saveta Igara o pokretanju časopisa koji bi se na teorijskom i kritičkom planu bavio fenomenom literature za decu, kao i odnosom između deteta, knjige, umetnosti i kulture. Anketa Kakav časopis zamišljate? donela je niz zanimljivih konstruktivnih predloga književnih stvaralaca, kritičara, predavača, teoretičara.
Na Zmajev rođendan iste, 1974. godine, održano je jesenje savetovanje posvećeno projektu časopisa o literaturi za decu. Uvodno izlaganje imao je Vladimir Milarić, a u razgovorima su učestvovali: Danica Nola, Georgi Arsovski, Zvonimir Balog, Jovan Dunđin, Voja Marjanović, Živan Milisavac, Rade Obrenović, Mirko Petrović, Aleksandar Popovski, Juraj Tušjak, Ferenc Feher, Dalibor Cvitan. Koncepcija najranijih svezaka novog časopisa bila je zasnovana na tezama iznetim i usvojenim na tom skupu i objavljenim u uvodniku prvog broja.
Članovi prve redakcije bili su: Jovan Dunđin, Ferenc Feher, Vladimir Milarić (glavni i odgovorni urednik), Rade Obrenović i Svetislav Ruškuc. U širi redakcijski kolegijum izabrani su: Zvonimir Balog i Dalibor Cvitan (Zagreb), Franček Bohanc (Ljubljana), Andrej Čipkar i Pero Zubac (Novi Sad), Miroslav Đurović i dr Novo Vuković (Titograd), France Forstnerič (Maribor), Muris Idrizović i Husein Tahmiščić (Sarajevo), Vehbi Kikaj i dr Vladeta Vuković (Priština), dr Slobodan Ž. Marković i Čedomir Mirković (Beograd), Aleksandar Popovski i Vecko Domazetovski (Skoplje), a likovna urednica bila je Živka Deak.
Detinjstvo – časopis o književnosti za decu jedini je naučni časopis u Republici Srbiji koji se dosledno i kontinuirano bavi teorijskim i kritičkim istraživanjem dečje književnosti i kulture. Od kada je objavljen prvi broj 1975. godine do danas takvo problemsko usmerenje pokazalo se ne samo kao neophodan i intrigantan, već i kao naučno uticajan oblik promišljanja literarnog diskursa.
Uredničke vizije i postignuća u oblikovanju Detinjstva Vladimira Milarića (od 1975. do 1984), Slobodana Ž. Markovića (od 1984. do 1993), Živana Živkovića (od 1993. do 1996), Svetozara Maleševa (1996/97), Jovana Ljuštanovića (od 1997. do 2019), Zorane Opačić (od 2019), Snežane Šarančić Čuture (od 2019. do 2023), Tijane Tropin (2024/2025), Valentine Hamović (od 2026) svakako i članova redakcijskih timova koje su činili profesori, istraživači, kritičari, pesnici i pisci iz Srbije, Hrvatske, Slovenije, Bosne i Hercegovine, Makedonije, Crne Gore, u proteklih pola veka stvorile su prepoznatljiv identitet časopisa. Tome su doprineli i likovni urednici, ilustratori i tvorci vizuelnog aspekta Detinjstva: Živka Deak, Oskar Štefan, Cvetan Dimovski, Ivan Antolčić, Branimir Prosenik, Gradimir Smuđa, Dušan Dimitrov, Mihal Kiralj, Slobodan Kuzmanov, Aleksandar Pedović, Ferenc Barat, Pop D. Đurđev, Katarina Kelić, Atila Kapitanj, Nikola Šarenac, Paulina Stanko, Ana Čobrda, Natalija Jočin, Slađana Ekres, Nenad Lazić i drugi.
Prvi brojevi Detinjstva 70-tih godina XX veka izlazili su u suizdavačkoj saradnji Zmajevih dečjih igara sa Festivalom Kurirček iz Maribora i Literaturni sredbi Kurirče – Kopački viduvanja Kičevo, a potom i Kolonijom Lastavica iz Sarajeva, ljubljanskom Mladinskom knjigom, Dečjim novinama iz Gornjeg Milanovca i drugim izdavačkim i kulturnim institucijama.
Pokretanje časopisa Detinjstvo 1975. godine bio je značajan poduhvat na izdavačkom planu Zmajevih dečjih igara. Sledeći važan korak na putu oblikovanja identiteta časopisa načinjen je kada je iste godine pod okriljem Detinjstva pokrenuto i održavanje okruglih stolova. Tema razgovora te godine glasila je: „Pogled u sadašnji trenutak književnosti za decu”, a rezultati savetovanja i tribina u organizaciji Igara postali su od tada dostupni stručnoj, ali i široj zainteresovanoj javnosti upravo na stranicama Detinjstva.
At the Conference of the Zmaj Children Games held in June 1974, literature and mother tongue teaching in primary schools, as well as reading culture, were discussed. In that moment, the initiative of the Games Council about launching a journal that would address the phenomenon of children’s literature on a theoretical and critical level, as well as the realtionship between the child, the book, art and culture, was supported. The survey What kind of journal do you envision? brought forward a series of interesting and constructive proposals from literary authors, critics, lecturers and theorists.
On Zmaj’s birthday that same year, 1974, a fall conference was held dedicated to the project of a journal on children’s literature. The introductory presentation was delivered by Vladimir Milarić, and the participants of the discussion were: Danica Nola, Georgi Arsovski, Zvonimir Balog, Jovan Dunđin, Voja Marjanović, Živan Milisavac, Rade Obrenović, Mirko Petrović, Aleksandar Popovski, Juraj Tušjak, Ferenc Feher and Dalibor Cvitan. The concept of the earliest scripts of the new journal was based on the notes presented and adopted at that coference and published in the editorial of the first issue.
The members of the first editorial board were: Jovan Dunđin, Ferenc Feher, Vladimir Milarić (editor-in-chief), Rade Obrenović and Svetislav Ruškuc. Childhood – A Journal on Children’s Literature is the only scientific journal in the Republic of Serbia, consistently and continuously dedicated to the theoretical and critical study of the children’s literature and culture. Ever since the publication of its first issue in 1975 until today, such problem-oriented focus turned out to be not only necessary and itriguing, but also a scientifically influential way of reflecting on literary discourse.
The editorial visions and achievements in the shaping of Childhood by Vladimir Marić (from 1975 until 1984), Slobodan Ž. Marković (from 1984 until 1993), Živan Živković (from 1993 until 1996), Svetozar Malešev, (1996/7), Jovan Ljuštanović (from 1997 until 2019), Zorana Opačić (since 2019), Snežana Šaranić (from 2019 until 2023), Tijana Tropin (2024/25), Valentina Hamović (since 2016), as well as the members of redaction teams consisting of professors, researchers, critics, poets and writers from Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro, have created the journal’s recognizable identity over the past half-century. Contributing to this identity were also the art editors, illustrators and creators of the visual aspect of Childhood: Živka Deak, Oskar Štefan, Cvetan Dimovski, Ivan Antolčić, Branimir Prosenik, Gradimir Smuđa, Dušan Dimitrov, Mihal Kiralj, Slobodan Kuzmanov, Aleksandar Pedović, Ferenc Barat, Pop D. Đurđev, Katarina Kelić, Atila Kapitanj, Nikola Šarenac, Paulina Stanko, Ana Čobrda, Natalija Jočin, Slađana Ekres, Nenad Lazić and others.
The first issues of Childhood in the 1970s were co-published by the Zmaj Children Games in cooperation with Kurirček Festival from Maribor and the literary gathering Kurirče- Kopački from Kičevo, as well as the Lastavica colony from Sarajevo, Mladinska knjiga from Ljubljana, Dečje novine from Gornji Milanovac and other publishing and cultural institutions.
The launching of the journal Childhood in the 1975 was a significant achievement in the publishing sector of the Zmaj Children Games. The next important step towards shaping the identity of the journal was taken that same year, when the discussions at the round table were initiated under the auspices of Childhood. The topic of that year’s discussion was: “A look at the present moment in children’s literature,“ and from that point onward, the results of conferences and forums organized by the Games became available to the professional, as well as the wider interested public, right in the pages of Childhood.
